Pool Cleaning Tips for Summer
Slowly but surely, summer is coming! Are you ready? If you haven’t finished your spring cleaning yet, call in maid services so you can focus on what’s ahead in the next few months.
With summer comes water everywhere: swimming pools in every yard, sprinklers, pool parties. Is your pool ready?
The Plastic Pool
If you have a small plastic kids’ pool in the backyard, you might not even think about cleaning it. After all, you fill it up, dump it out, then put away until you’re ready to use it again.
However, mold and mildew love the moisture from these swimming pools, and if you fold them up, you’ll need to tackle that before your kids can use it. According to The Queen of Clean at DIY Network, here’s how to clean mildew or mold off of a plastic kiddie pool:
- Combine 1 quart of warm water, 2 tablespoons of bleach, and a squirt of your favorite dishsoap.
- Using gloves and a sponge, wipe down the plastic surfaces, even if you don’t see any mildew.
- Rinse the pool off completely before the kids use it!
You can also leave the pool out to dry in the sunlight before filling it as sunlight is naturally anti-bacterial.
The Deep End
Whether above ground or in-ground, a big swimming pool requires a little more maintenance. Always check with your pool manufacturer for maintenance requirements, but there are some things that are common and will help you keep the pool clean all season:
- Keep the pH balances correct. It can be a chore to check the levels every day, but it’s the number one way to keep your pool clean and healthy.
- Skim the surface. At least once a week, skim the surface with the pool net. No one likes getting into a pool full of leaves, dirt, and bugs!
- Cover it. If you don’t use it every day, keep it covered when you aren’t using it. Prevention is the best way to keep the pool clean!
