A Designer's Pick for Must-Have Decorating Elements
Have you ever wondered if you could talk to a designer for 5 minutes, what handful of things they would recommend? There are always those items that work across several different types of rooms and colors, but it's sometimes hard to recognize what those items are without a trained eye.
Erin Gates from Elements of Style sat down and wrote her list for Better Homes & Gardens, so if you're looking for those last few stand out accessories for your space, this might be exactly what you're looking for!
A Gold Sculptural Element. Erin says that gold adds “spunk and glamour,” and the great thing about gold is that it goes perfectly with practically anything.
This element is anything with strong lines and definition, and if your budget doesn't allow for grabbing a new sculpture, try taking something you already have and adding the spunk—almost anything looks good with a coat of gold spray pain.
Maybe not the garden gnome, though.
Colorful, Curvy Lamps. The specific lamps she references are ceramic gourd-shaped lamps, but any style like this will fit nicely into your space. Because they come in so many colors, you can find one that's going to fit into any palette. Their clean lines and smooth colors suit many styles, too; from modern to contemporary to cottage.
Sunburst Mirrors. Despite their prevalence, Erin says these mirrors are a great addition to a room. It's a modern classic that suits any color combination, goes well over patterns, and makes a statement. If you've got some wall space that's missing some pizzazz, a sunburst mirror might be your best bet!
